Poem Title: If Mom Was Here
Written By: Poet Nazir
Year: 2021
I woke up to meet the absence of the woman I love
There are stories told about her
She was just magnificent with a glowing hair
Per the stories, her nature was as white, clean as a dove
Now I’m up seeing things; I begin to wonder.
If mom was here
Would I still want to fall in love ?
For my heart to be ‘tennised’ while I weep
For my eyes to be watery because of weakness
Or I’ll just be human with less to worry

If mom was here
Would I need to wander about who to call for help?
For my dignity to be dragged to dirt
And my respect be clothed in a scruffy shirt
Or I’ll just be a human with less to worry
If mom was here
Would I need to think too much?
For my brains to shatter with depression
And my heart to dwell in the crib of loneliness
Or I’ll just be a human with less to worry
If mom was here
Would I need to depend on friends before I smile?
For their absence to cost me a fortune
And my hopes be implanted in their trust
Or I’ll just be a human with less to worry

If mom was here
Would people in her family express their adoration?
Just like they’ve refused to when she’s gone
For them to put my plead to rest because she can’t hear
For all I know, her absence has created a hallow in my life
Or I’ll just be a human with less to worry
If mom was here
Would she speak ill of me
Or watch me to dwell in the arms of neediness
Would she attend to me like a mother
Or I’ll spend the rest of my life thinking if living was worth it..?
