Written Poetry: The Sick Siege – Alfonso El-Sabio

Poem Title – The Sick Siege
Written By: Alfonso El Sabio
Year: 2020

Our world is under siege
Not from the conquerer’s sword
Not the attacker’s bow

It’s a raging fire that separates me from you
Fear is shutting out the comforting light of hope
Hurtling us down a steep downward slope

Tearing the mother from her baby
The man from his lady

Maiming the boldest of hearts-
Eating the greatest of minds

My touch could be lethal
Though your hugs to me are crucial

We stand on opposite banks
Yearning to be near
But ever so far

Pining day and night
Unable to see you even when you are in sight

This fire may not scar our bodies but it will mark our souls
I patiently wait to look into your eyes again
Hold your hands and kiss without disdain.
